Manchester United is still planning to pursue Bayern Munich players, but no agreement has been reached to acquire Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Both players are currently negotiating, with hopes of moving to Old Trafford this summer.

Rafaela Pimenta, who is working to secure an exit for her clients, represents both players. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United is trying to negotiate a transfer fee below £59.8 million for the duo.

“The players’ side continues to communicate with Bayern, as Rafaela Pimenta represents Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. Both players are expected to join Manchester United this summer.”

“There is still no agreement with Bayern because they are asking for €50 million for De Ligt and around €20 million for Mazraoui. Essentially, Manchester United aims to pay less than this €70 million (£59.8 million) combined fee. Negotiations are ongoing, but it is clear that De Ligt is awaiting his move to Manchester United.”

Erik ten Hag, who previously coached both players at Ajax, is looking to reunite with them. Adding both players to his defence would be strategic for the Dutch coach as he aims to rebuild his team at Old Trafford.

Mazraoui, a versatile right-back capable of playing on both flanks, brings physicality to both defensive and offensive play. He would be a significant upgrade over Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

However, Matthijs de Ligt could be the more impactful addition to Manchester United. Once a teenage captain at Ajax, De Ligt’s career has not fully lived up to its early promise.

During his stints with Juventus and Bayern Munich, De Ligt has shown flashes of brilliance but has yet to consistently excel. At 24, he still has a promising future and could potentially anchor Manchester United’s defence for over five years if he joins.

Manchester United fans are eager for the club to finalize these deals quickly. With the team’s current injury woes, these potential signings could bring much-needed optimism.
