Bruno Fernandes has reportedly issued a major January transfer demand to Manchester United’s INEOS leadership after their dramatic comeback victory over Roma

Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 victory over AS Roma at Old Trafford was expected to be a night of celebration, with Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha playing decisive roles in the comeback. The captain converted a penalty in the 58th minute to get United back into the contest before Cunha struck twice late in the game to complete the turnaround.
However, an extraordinary claim has emerged about what allegedly happened after the final whistle. Reports circulating online suggest Fernandes spoke to a group of European journalists in the mixed zone and revealed details of a private meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and technical director Jason Wilcox at Carrington earlier in the week.
According to the reported comments, the Portuguese midfielder expressed frustration with the responsibility he carries in United’s creative department and urged the club to bring in another playmaker during the January transfer window.
The alleged statement suggests Fernandes warned the hierarchy that he could not continue shouldering the creative burden alone, insisting that the squad needs another quality midfielder capable of sharing the responsibility.
The claim also points to progress in negotiations for an unnamed transfer target, with an alleged verbal understanding already reached with the player’s representative. However, the proposed move is reportedly dependent on United activating a €45 million release clause, equivalent to approximately £37.5 million.
The story has raised questions about United’s midfield plans and whether the club’s leadership is prepared to strengthen the squad when the winter window opens. Fernandes has been central to the team’s attacking play, and the suggestion that he wants more support has added another talking point following the Roma victory.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Jason Wilcox could therefore face questions about the club’s recruitment priorities in the coming months. Nevertheless, there is currently no reliable confirmation that Fernandes made the reported remarks, held the alleged meeting or issued an ultimatum. The transfer claims should be treated with caution.
