Manchester City Star Phil Foden reveals the meaning behind his new celebration and the nickname he’s been given by teammates
The meaning of Phil Foden’s celebration has been exposed.
Last month, Foden debuted his unique celebration after scoring a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Brentford.
After scoring, the Englishman made a gun-like motion with his hands while kneeling on the turf.
On Sunday afternoon, Foden won the derby against Manchester United with a brace.

After scoring, Foden repeated his now-signature celebration.
Last month, Foden outlined the significance of it.
He explained, “It’s a little of banter between me and the fellas. They claim I shoot a lot in five-a-side games. They nickname me “the sniper.”
Kyle Walker remarked in a post-match interview following the triumph over United: “We call Phil the sniper because he likes to shoot.” When he comes in on that left foot, you know he has the ability to select his place. He accepted his ambitions quite well.
“We rely on him, and we need key guys. He practiced and worked hard. His ambitions are coming, and he is experiencing the benefits.”
Former Manchester United player Gary Neville heaped admiration on Foden during an interview with Sky Sports.
He stated, “Some derby matches can be dramatic and passionate events. However, for local players who have come through the programme, it means a great deal. Phil Foden is cold as ice.
“Today, the unique skill that has always been labelled as potential and promise is here to stay. He’s such an excellent player.”

He continued, “It’s vital that it’s him. City are well-positioned for the title run-in.”
On the impact the City win would have on the title race, Neville said: “Manchester City couldn’t afford to lose points today, given the state of the title fight and the games they have coming up. Liverpool is up next, followed by Arsenal.
“They’ve got a big few weeks ahead. This is the beginning of it. There was a little bit of a worry early on, but they finished the job.
Micah Richards, a former City player, said: “Manchester United defended brilliantly, but they can’t do it for 90 minutes. Finally, the quality showed. They are two distinct teams, one attempting to discover themselves. Manchester City swept them away with their talent.”
City will play Liverpool next Sunday in what is expected to be a thrilling title six-pointer.
