The Glazer family are reportedly considering a complete exit from Manchester United

Manchester United’s ownership situation has returned to the spotlight following fresh speculation that the Glazer family could eventually sell its remaining shares and bring an end to its long-standing control of the club.

A statement circulating online claims the American owners have agreed to sell their entire stake after negotiations with a potential investor. However, the statement has not been authenticated, and no completed full-sale agreement has been confirmed.

The Glazers have faced years of opposition from United supporters since their leveraged takeover in 2005, with protests driven by concerns over debt, investment, recruitment and Old Trafford’s condition.

Their position changed somewhat in 2024 when Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS acquired a minority stake and assumed responsibility for football operations. However, the Glazers retained majority voting control, meaning they continued to hold significant influence over the club.

Reuters reported in June 2026 that some family members were considering selling part or all of their holdings, although that did not confirm an agreement to sell everything.

A complete takeover would represent a significant turning point for United, potentially creating opportunities for stadium investment, improved recruitment and a new leadership structure.

Nevertheless, new ownership alone would not guarantee success. United would still need sound football management, long-term planning and consistent investment.

For now, supporters are waiting for official confirmation rather than relying on circulating claims. The Glazers’ departure remains unconfirmed.
