Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly approved a surprise January loan move

Manchester United are reportedly preparing for a major attacking addition during the January transfer window, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe said to have approved a high-profile loan proposal. However, head coach Michael Carrick has made his position clear: the club will not make special allowances for a big-name arrival.

United are believed to be exploring the possibility of bringing an established forward currently playing abroad back to the Premier League as they look to improve their attacking options and give their season a fresh boost.

According to the claims, the proposed arrangement would be a six-month loan with an option to make the move permanent. Discussions have reportedly progressed to the financial details, including how the player’s wages would be divided between United and his current club.

Ratcliffe is said to be supportive of the deal, with the club’s hierarchy reportedly convinced that the forward could provide the quality needed to strengthen the attack. However, Carrick has allegedly introduced one condition that could determine whether the transfer goes ahead.

The United manager reportedly wants the player to accept a rotational position rather than arrive expecting to be an automatic starter. He believes every member of the squad must earn their place through performances, regardless of reputation, salary or transfer status.

That approach would also allow Carrick to maintain flexibility in his selection, protect opportunities for existing attacking players and ensure that new arrivals fit into the team’s structure.

With the financial groundwork reportedly in place, the decision could now depend on the player’s willingness to accept the manager’s demands. If he agrees, United could move quickly to complete the proposed January deal.

However, the identity of the player, the reported agreement between Ratcliffe and Carrick, and the details of the proposed loan have not been independently confirmed.
