The supporters were celebrating a result that brought back memories of the club’s famous ability to fight until the final whistle, with the late winner sending the stadium into celebration.
Among those enjoying the spectacle was legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Cameras captured him smiling and applauding from the directors’ box as United produced a comeback that supporters will not forget easily.
However, attention has shifted to an alleged private encounter between Ferguson and one of United’s standout performers after the final whistle.
According to reports circulating online, the former manager made his way towards the dressing-room area, where he personally approached the player, shook his hand and praised his contribution to the victory.
Ferguson allegedly described the performance as a reflection of the traditional Manchester United spirit, telling the player that he had reminded him of the club’s glory years. He reportedly encouraged him to maintain that same passion and determination, adding that he could help take United back to the highest level of European football.
The alleged exchange has attracted attention because of Ferguson’s extraordinary legacy at Old Trafford. During his 26-year reign, United became renowned for their resilience, late comebacks and refusal to accept defeat before the final whistle.
For any current player, receiving such personal praise from the legendary manager would undoubtedly be a special moment. It would also serve as a reminder of the expectations that come with representing Manchester United.
Nevertheless, neither the reported handshake nor the exact words attributed to Ferguson have been independently confirmed.
United’s comeback has already given supporters plenty to celebrate, but the possibility of such an encounter has added another talking point to an unforgettable night.
