DEAL SIGNED: Man United has just reached the final agreement to sign an European top attacker who has been prolific this season

Manchester United have reportedly moved a step closer to strengthening what has been one of their most problematic areas this season, with a key target edging toward a deal ahead of the summer transfer window.

The club’s desire to reshape its midfield has been clear for some time, and the likelihood of securing Champions League football is expected to boost their ability to attract top talent. With Casemiro nearing the end of a dramatic four-year spell at Old Trafford and Manuel Ugarte struggling to make a lasting impact in England, both players appear set to move on.

As a result, United are preparing to bring in at least two midfield reinforcements who can slot straight into the first team. Reports suggest the club are now in a strong position to complete a deal for one of their long-term targets, Carlos Baleba.

The Manchester United hierarchy remains optimistic about landing the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder. While Elliot Anderson has emerged as a leading option for recruitment chief Jason Wilcox, Baleba continues to attract strong interest internally, with growing confidence that he could still make the switch to Old Trafford.

Last summer, United made initial contact with Brighton but were reportedly far apart in their valuations, with the Seagulls placing a price tag exceeding £100 million on the former Lille youngster. Despite that gap, the Red Devils were not discouraged and instead used the time to lay the groundwork for a future move.

Now, there is renewed belief within the club that an agreement can be reached at a fee much closer to their own valuation, increasing the chances of finally getting the deal over the line this summer.

Encouragingly for United, personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle. Baleba is seen as a strong tactical fit, offering the kind of energy, defensive strength, and positional intelligence needed to rebuild the midfield. Even though his role has been somewhat reduced under Fabian Hurzeler this season, his qualities still align with what United are looking for.

At just 22, Baleba’s ability to break up play, cover ground, and read the game could make him an ideal successor to Casemiro. While he may not be the club’s absolute top target, he remains firmly in contention.

Elsewhere, João Gomes of Wolverhampton Wanderers is also being monitored, although recent reports indicate he may prefer a move to Liverpool instead.
