Breaking News: Antoine Semenyo Rejects Liverpool in Favour of Manchester United
With Antoine Semenyo now widely tipped to complete a move to Manchester City, Liverpool have turned their attention to alternative attacking reinforcements as they plan for the coming months. Alexander Isak’s recent injury has heightened the urgency to add depth behind Hugo Ekitike, even as the club expects Mohamed Salah to stay put during the January window. Still, lingering doubts over Salah’s long-term future have pushed Liverpool’s recruitment team to evaluate potential options who could also serve as longer-term solutions.
Reports suggest the Reds have shortlisted two forwards familiar with the demands of the Premier League as possible short-term additions. One of those names is Memphis Depay. Although the Dutch forward endured a difficult spell at Manchester United earlier in his career, he has since revived his standing at international level, becoming the Netherlands’ all-time top scorer. Now playing for Corinthians in Brazil at 31, Depay’s ties to Liverpool’s Dutch core — including head coach Arne Slot — have reportedly made him an appealing and realistic candidate.
Another player under consideration is Atlético Madrid’s Alexander Sørloth. The Norway international failed to make a lasting impact during his stint at Crystal Palace but has gone on to flourish in Spain, scoring more than 50 goals across successful spells with Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Atlético. Liverpool are believed to be weighing up the possibility of bringing the 30-year-old in on loan to bolster their attacking options.
Liverpool are also said to be keeping a close eye on Brentford striker Igor Thiago following Isak’s setback. While Brentford are unlikely to entertain offers midway through the season, the Brazilian’s recent form has reportedly caught Liverpool’s attention, with club analysts viewing him as a forward well-suited to their tactical approach.
On the defensive front, Liverpool’s priority remains Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guéhi. A late attempt to sign the England international fell through last summer, but multiple reports indicate a deal is more feasible next year when his contract runs down. Despite strong competition from other elite European sides, there is speculation that groundwork may already have been laid for Guéhi to make the switch to Anfield at the end of the season.
