Manchester United’s Latest transfer news as the Reds signed Bryan Mbeumo on five-years transfer deal.
Manchester United are reportedly making a bold attempt to lure Champions League winner Fabian Ruiz to Old Trafford, with manager Ruben Amorim hoping to rebuild a struggling squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
After a disastrous 2024/25 campaign that saw United slump to 15th in the Premier League and lose the Europa League final to Tottenham, the club is determined to return to its former glory—even without any European football next season. Amorim’s mission to restore United’s status has already begun, with the addition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, who is expected to play as one of the two attacking midfielders in his system.
According to sources close to TEAMtalk, Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo is interested in a move to United despite Tottenham’s interest, and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez has also emerged as a top goalkeeper target. Martinez is reportedly open to the switch, giving Amorim hope of reshaping his starting XI.
Now, United have turned their attention to Fabian Ruiz of Paris Saint-Germain. A recent report from France suggests the Red Devils have serious interest in the Spanish midfielder and are even ready to submit a €50 million (£43m) bid. Ruiz has been instrumental in PSG’s recent success, helping them to three Ligue 1 titles and a Champions League trophy. Spain national team manager Luis de la Fuente recently labelled him “exceptional” and “world-class.”
Despite United’s ambitions, landing Ruiz could prove extremely difficult. He played a key role for PSG last season, scoring once and assisting four times in the Champions League, while contributing nine goal involvements in Ligue 1. PSG manager Luis Enrique reportedly wants to keep his midfield trio of Ruiz, Vitinha, and Joao Neves intact, suggesting Ruiz is not for sale.
Adding to the challenge, Ruiz may not be tempted by a move to a club currently outside the European spotlight. While United still boast global appeal, their lack of Champions League football and uncertain prospects might make it hard to convince him. PSG, on the other hand, remain one of the strongest sides in Europe, and Ruiz is firmly integrated into their setup.
Even with a respectable offer on the table, PSG are unlikely to accept it unless a major change occurs—like the arrival of another elite midfielder who could reduce Ruiz’s role in the team. Otherwise, the Spanish international seems settled and valued in Paris.
United’s interest in Ruiz coincides with other developments. They’ve contacted the representatives of a top Turkish playmaker, believed by some to be one of the best in his position. Meanwhile, former United striker Louis Saha has voiced his opinion on who Amorim should sign next—a physically strong forward who can create chances out of nothing. Brentford’s director of football has also warned United about the high price they’d need to pay for Mbeumo.
Despite their ambition, United’s pursuit of Ruiz looks like a long shot for now. Unless the circumstances shift significantly, the club might need to consider alternative targets to reinforce their midfield.
