Michael Carrick has reportedly stunned Manchester United supporters with claims that he is considering walking away from his position after feeling let down by members of his own squad

Manchester United are facing fresh uncertainty following claims that Michael Carrick could consider leaving his position after becoming frustrated with the attitude of certain players. The allegation comes shortly after United’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Roma, a result many supporters hoped would restore confidence at Old Trafford.

A statement circulating online, allegedly attributed to Carrick, suggests the manager feels some members of the squad have never genuinely supported him despite his efforts to turn the team’s fortunes around. However, there is no reliable confirmation that he has resigned or made the reported comments.

United’s victory over Roma appeared to provide Carrick with some much-needed relief after a difficult period. Goals from Matías Soulé and Donyell Malen put the visitors 2-0 ahead before Bruno Fernandes helped launch the comeback. Matheus Cunha eventually scored twice, with young substitute Shea Lacey providing the assist for the winning goal.

The alleged dressing-room tension has nevertheless raised questions about the relationship between Carrick and his players. A breakdown in trust between a manager and his squad can create serious difficulties, particularly when performances and results are already inconsistent.

United’s hierarchy would also face important decisions if Carrick’s position became uncertain. Changing managers without addressing recruitment, squad quality and the club’s wider footballing structure could create further instability.

For now, the resignation story remains unverified. United need consistency, unity and improved performances rather than another period of uncertainty at Old Trafford.
