Patrice Evra has reportedly delivered a devastating verdict following Manchester United’s 4-2 pre-season defeat to AC Milan
Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has reportedly expressed serious concern after watching the club suffer a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in Wrocław, Poland. The fixture was supposed to serve as the final preparation before the Premier League season, but instead exposed several weaknesses that have reportedly left the former United captain questioning whether the squad is ready for the challenges ahead.
Evra is said to have been particularly troubled by United’s inability to protect their leads and maintain control when Milan increased the pressure. With the club preparing for both domestic competition and a return to the Champions League, the former defender reportedly believes the current squad may not have enough quality, intensity or depth to compete consistently at the highest level.
Reacting to the defeat, Evra reportedly warned that United could face much greater problems against Europe’s elite. United regained the lead six minutes after half-time when Patrick Dorgu capitalised on a poor backpass to make it 2-1. However, the advantage quickly disappeared as Milan turned the game around with a devastating spell. Between the 57th and 71st minutes, Alphadjo Cissé, Gonçalo Ramos and Ruben Loftus-Cheek found the net as Milan scored three times to complete a 4-2 comeback.
The collapse has reportedly increased pressure on Carrick and the INEOS hierarchy to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes.
