The pressure surrounding Manchester United’s pre-season preparations intensified dramatically in Wrocław after they suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in their final friendly before the Premier League campaign begins. What should have been an important final test instead exposed major defensive weaknesses, as Ruben Amorim’s Milan side produced a stunning second-half comeback with four goals. The result reportedly left United supporters frustrated and former captain Roy Keane deeply critical of the team’s performance.
United appeared to be in control early on after Harry Maguire headed Bruno Fernandes’ corner into the net just two minutes into the match. AC Milan responded through Samuel Chukwueze in the 37th minute, but Patrick Dorgu restored United’s advantage shortly after the restart by taking advantage of a defensive error.

The collapse reportedly became the main talking point after the final whistle, with Roy Keane directing particularly harsh criticism toward one of United’s senior players. The former captain questioned whether the club could afford to continue relying on the player during the upcoming season, arguing that his introduction appeared to benefit Milan and contributed to the defensive problems that allowed the Italian side to complete their comeback.
Keane’s reported comments have since generated considerable discussion among Manchester United supporters, with many questioning whether the squad has enough defensive quality and depth to compete at the highest level. The defeat has also placed additional pressure on Michael Carrick, who now has little time to address the weaknesses exposed during the final pre-season test.
Although Carrick attempted to remain composed after the match, conceding four goals in the second half will undoubtedly raise concerns ahead of the competitive campaign.
