Manchester City Star Julian Alverez will become the most hated City player after he signed a contract of five years with shocking La Liga rival Club
Julian Alvarez being replaced by a new signing this month is far from a foregone conclusion, as the Manchester City squad includes multiple internal options.
Oscar Bobb is the most obvious one after being the standout player from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States. Since turning 21 in mid-July, the Norway international has scored two goals and assisted another three across City’s four high-scoring friendlies.
After appearing 26 times last season, all but seven of which were as a substitute, Bobb seems set for a more prominent role. Impressing in the absence of Alvarez has only enhanced his chances.
That also applies to James McAtee after scoring in the Milan match and assisting two more against Chelsea. Nico O’Reilly also took his chances in the other two games, setting up Bobb’s opener versus Celtic before getting himself on the scoresheet against Barcelona.
The expectation is that both will stay in the first-team squad this season. There is also an anticipation that Phil Foden will feature more centrally this campaign than last term.
As for the signings City have already made, Savinho should have the chance to make a positive first impression against Manchester United in the Community Shield. Claudio Echeverri is also due to arrive in January after spending the rest of this year on loan at River Plate.
Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that the club would consider adding to the squad should a player depart, but identifying the right talent before the end of this month is far from straightforward. So do not expect the initial £64 million fee or the money made on Sergio Gomez, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle and Yan Couto – to see several new players come in as the manager made clear that the squad would look the same as last season.
