Pervis Estupiñán Eyes Manchester United Move, but Transfer Remains Uncertain
Brighton defender Pervis Estupiñán is reportedly eager to join Manchester United this summer and has directed his representatives to begin working on a possible exit from his current club. According to journalist Sebastien Vidal, the Ecuadorian international is seriously considering a switch to Old Trafford if the opportunity arises.
Manchester United, coming off the back of a dismal 2024/25 campaign where they finished a shocking 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final, are now actively rebuilding their squad. Manager Ruben Amorim has so far focused on improving the attack, with Matheus Cunha already signed and a strong interest in Bryan Mbeumo. However, defensive reinforcements—particularly at wing-back—may soon become a greater focus.
Though Estupiñán is keen on joining United and has even been described as “phenomenal” by some, the club is not currently prioritizing him as a main transfer target. Sources suggest that while United do admire the 27-year-old’s qualities, they are not actively pursuing a deal at this stage. That makes the transfer unlikely for now.
Manchester United recently brought in young Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon, who is expected to begin his journey with the academy. They also have other left-back options in Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, and academy prospect Harry Amass, as well as January signing Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. These options provide the club with some depth, even though injuries and inexperience remain concerns.
Despite Estupiñán’s appeal—being Premier League-tested, attack-minded, and relatively young—his fitness issues and the potential price tag of £40–50 million could deter United from making a serious move. He missed a large portion of last season due to injuries, which might make the club cautious.
Right now, Manchester United’s focus appears to be elsewhere. Strengthening the central defense and midfield are the club’s top priorities, with players like Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Jarrad Branthwaite, João Neves, and Manuel Ugarte more prominently on their radar. Unless their current left-back situation changes drastically—especially if injuries hit again—Estupiñán’s dream move to Old Trafford may not materialize anytime soon.
