Manchester United could be in line to make significant financial savings—up to £90 million—if they move on from Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Casemiro during the current transfer window. The club is considering this strategy as part of a broader effort to reduce an inflated wage bill and rebuild the squad under the leadership of new manager Ruben Amorim and the INEOS regime.
Rashford, whose future remains uncertain, currently earns around £300,000 a week and is under contract until 2028. Despite being one of the club’s most well-known academy graduates, his inconsistent performances and recent loan spell at Aston Villa have cast doubt over his long-term role at Old Trafford. United are open to letting him go permanently or potentially arranging another loan move.
Financial analyst and former Manchester City advisor Stefan Borson has highlighted the potential impact of parting ways with all four players. According to him, Rashford, Sancho, Antony, and Casemiro together could cost the club between £80 million and £90 million in wages alone over the coming season. That figure takes into account their base salaries, estimated bonuses, and image rights payments. Casemiro is currently the highest earner among them, with a reported weekly wage of £350,000, while Sancho and Antony are believed to earn around £275,000 and £200,000–£250,000 a week respectively.
Borson emphasized that removing these high earners from the payroll would be a massive financial relief for United, particularly since their contributions on the pitch have not consistently justified their costs. Casemiro did feature more regularly toward the end of last season, but his age and high wages make him an expensive asset with limited long-term value. Sancho, who spent time on loan at Chelsea, and Antony, who was loaned to Real Betis, have both struggled to make a sustained impact.
Meanwhile, United are also looking to reinvest and restructure their squad. They’ve already made moves in the market and are reportedly close to finalizing a deal with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. The forward, who had an impressive campaign last season with 20 goals and nine assists, is being valued at £60–65 million by Brentford, though United’s current offer stands at £45 million with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons.
Other players linked with the club as part of this overhaul include Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, and Girona’s Miguel Gutiérrez. The club’s strategy, driven by INEOS and new sporting director Dan Ashworth, appears focused on shedding overpaid underperformers while targeting younger, more dynamic talent to fit Amorim’s tactical vision.
As the summer window progresses, more clarity is expected on Rashford’s future, particularly with Aston Villa reportedly interested in making his loan move permanent. Jadon Sancho has attracted attention from clubs like Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, and Barcelona, while Casemiro is being monitored by Saudi Arabian teams. With big changes on the horizon, Manchester United seem determined to turn the page both financially and on the pitch.
