Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek is set to leave Manchester United for a move to Girona, ahead of their Champions League qualifiers.
Having joined United for £35 million in the summer of 2020, Van de Beek struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup. Despite making 36 appearances across all competitions in his first season, he started only four Premier League matches.
A reunion with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag didn’t improve his situation, leading to his transfer to Girona, a prominent La Liga team.

Girona will pay an initial €500,000 (£420,000) for Van de Beek, with the deal including several performance-related add-ons. According to Fabrizio Romano, there are “easy add-ons” that could bring the deal closer to €5 million (£4.2 million), while United could potentially earn up to €15 million (£12.7 million) if all bonuses are triggered. BBC Sport reports a slightly higher potential final figure of €20 million (£16.9 million).
During his four years at Old Trafford, Van de Beek made just 62 appearances, accumulating slightly over 2,000 minutes of play. He spent a year on loan, finishing the 2021/22 season with Everton, where he appeared seven times, and then adding eight more appearances with Eintracht Frankfurt in the latter half of last season.
