England Manager Gareth Southgate has responded to rumours linking him with the Manchester United if Erig Ten Hag get Sacked

During a press conference on Friday, England manager Gareth Southgate responded emphatically to reports linking him with the Manchester United job.

Earlier this week, it was reported that United shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has named the Three Lions manager his top pick to take over at Old Trafford this summer.

Southgate’s contract with the national team expires in December, and the FA is eager to lock him down to a new agreement.

However, Ratcliffe, who is reported to be impressed by Southgate’s work with England, is becoming ‘increasingly optimistic’ of luring him to United, according to the Daily Star.

The Premier League might pay roughly £800,000 in compensation to obtain Southgate, who is one among the favourites to take over if Erik ten Hag is dismissed of his duties.

But, with speculation rife over his future, Southgate has opted to publicly address speculations of a move to Manchester United.

“There are two things from my point of view,” he stated ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Brazil.

“One is that I am England’s manager. I have one job, which is to attempt to produce a European Championship, and Manchester United now has a manager.

“I believe it is always completely disrespectful when there is a manager in charge. I don’t have time for that type of thing.”

Southgate will not speak with any interested parties until the European Championship this summer, so United and other teams will have to wait if they are interested.

Earlier this week, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire pushed the former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender to remain as England manager, despite continuous speculation.

When asked if the England squad wants Southgate to stay beyond the summer, he said, “Yes, definitely, obviously.

“We want to be successful in the Euros – we are not looking at the World Cup at the moment – but obviously if we are successful at the Euros, which is our main focus, of course, we want to be successful.”

He continued, “If Gareth is the man who will lead us to success, we want him to stay as long as possible. I’ve had an excellent relationship with him. I’ve contributed significantly to our country’s development and progress.

“And I’m sure he’ll say the same thing now: it’s all about winning the trophy. I have no idea what will happen after the Euros, and I’m not sure if he does either.

“But I believe that from the time he took over this job to where we are now, we have made tremendous progress, and he has played a significant role in that.

“He is obviously recognised and respected by the players and those close to him. And those whose opinions are important to him.”
