ERIK TEN HAG REVEALS HOW MANCHESTER UNITED’S HIERARCHY BETRAYED HIM OVER SCOTT McTOMINAY’S SHOCKING EXIT

Manchester United have been dragged into another transfer controversy after former manager Erik ten Hag claimed the club’s hierarchy went against an agreement regarding Scott McTominay’s departure in 2024.

The Dutchman revealed that he wanted the Scottish midfielder to remain at Old Trafford and believed the club’s senior officials had agreed with his position. However, McTominay was eventually sold, leaving Ten Hag feeling disappointed and let down by the people responsible for making transfer decisions.

According to Ten Hag, the issue was discussed during a meeting in Ibiza following United’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City. He claims the club had assured him of their support and promised better communication and a shared vision for the future. The subsequent sale of McTominay allegedly contradicted those assurances.

United sold the midfielder to Napoli for approximately £25.7 million in August 2024. Despite not always being a regular starter, McTominay scored 10 goals during the 2023/24 campaign, offering valuable contributions in attack and midfield.

Ten Hag believed his goalscoring ability, physical presence, versatility, and connection to the club made him an important player worth keeping.

McTominay later flourished under Antonio Conte at Napoli, helping the Italian side win the Serie A title in his first season. His success has intensified questions about United’s decision to let him leave.

Although the sale helped United financially, supporters continue to debate whether the club sacrificed an important player for economic reasons.

Was Manchester United right to sell McTominay, or did the hierarchy make a costly mistake by ignoring Ten Hag’s wishes?
