ANDREY SANTOS IS SHOWING PROMISE AT MANCHESTER UNITED BUT IS HE THE MIDFIELDER CARRICK HAS BEEN SEARCHING FOR?

Manchester United supporters have reasons to keep an eye on Andrey Santos as the young Brazilian midfielder gets opportunities to prove himself at Old Trafford. However, the big question remains whether he can become a key solution to the club’s ongoing midfield problems.

At 22, Santos still has plenty of room to improve, but playing for United comes with enormous expectations. His composure, technical ability and potential to help the team maintain possession could make him an important part of Michael Carrick’s plans.

His partnership with Carlos Baleba is particularly interesting. Both midfielders completed 90 minutes in United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United, with Carrick reportedly pleased with their contributions. Santos could provide control and intelligent positioning, while Baleba offers physical strength, energy and ball-winning ability.

Such a combination could also benefit Bruno Fernandes by giving the Portuguese captain greater freedom to create chances and influence attacking play. Kobbie Mainoo remains another valuable option, meaning Carrick must find the right balance without weakening the team defensively.

Nevertheless, United must avoid placing unrealistic expectations on Santos too early. He still needs to demonstrate consistency, improve his influence against aggressive opponents and prove himself over time.

His recent performances offer encouragement, but two matches cannot determine his long-term future.

United need patience, tactical clarity and a balanced midfield rather than expecting one young player to solve everything.

Would you start Santos and Baleba together, with Bruno Fernandes ahead of them, or give Mainoo one of those midfield positions?
