Ferdinand suggested that while Maguire often finds himself at the center of criticism, the deeper problem stems from a breakdown in defensive structure caused by this unnamed individual. According to him, the player’s tendency to drift out of position or fail to track back properly has exposed the defense far too often, putting unnecessary pressure on the center-backs.
He emphasized that football is a collective effort, and defensive stability depends heavily on teamwork and awareness across the entire lineup—not just those stationed at the back. Ferdinand also pointed out that when one player neglects their responsibilities, it creates gaps that opponents are quick to exploit.
In his view, until that issue is addressed, Manchester United will continue to struggle defensively, regardless of who is playing in central defense.
