Manchester United Make Major Decision on Alejandro Balde, Lewis Hall and Jorge Salinas as Left-Back Transfer Twist Emerges

Manchester United’s hunt for a new left-back is becoming increasingly intriguing as the club considers both an immediate fix and a longer-term solution. With the transfer window edging closer to deadline day, the need to strengthen the position is becoming more urgent.

Alejandro Balde has now emerged as one of the most interesting names on United’s radar. The Barcelona left-back is reportedly being looked at as the club searches for more depth and genuine competition on the left flank. Barcelona are believed to be willing to consider a sale, with a potential price of around €45 million (£38m) being mentioned, although their exact demands are still uncertain.

The biggest obstacle, however, is United’s willingness to spend. The club reportedly has little desire to commit such a large fee at this point in the window.

A loan deal could therefore become a more realistic route. United could bring Balde in for the season, giving Michael Carrick another high-quality option without immediately using a significant portion of the transfer budget. Ideally, the club would also want an opportunity to make the move permanent at the end of the loan.

Balde’s current situation at Barcelona has only added fuel to the speculation. The 22-year-old was surprisingly omitted from the squad for Barcelona’s opening LaLiga match, while Hansi Flick explained that the defender needed some time to get his mind right. His absence has naturally raised more questions about what lies ahead for him at Camp Nou.

United have reportedly already opened communication over a possible move, suggesting that Balde is more than just another name being monitored by the recruitment team.

However, Lewis Hall continues to be viewed as the preferred long-term target. Manchester United have reportedly admired the Newcastle defender for quite some time, but Newcastle’s stance remains firm: Hall is not available for transfer this summer.

Trying to force that deal would likely require a huge financial commitment, something United are apparently unwilling to make right now. Instead of spending heavily on Hall, the club could opt for a temporary solution this summer before returning to the Newcastle star next year.

There is also another intriguing name in the picture: Jorge Salinas.

The 19-year-old Racing Santander defender has reportedly attracted attention because of a €16 million release clause. Salinas would represent a completely different type of investment compared with Balde or Hall, offering United a younger and potentially cheaper player who could be developed into a long-term asset.

The potential competition could make the situation even more interesting, with Atlético Madrid reportedly keeping an eye on the teenager as well.

United now appear to have three very different possibilities. Balde offers immediate quality and experience at the highest level but could prove expensive. Hall remains the highly-rated long-term preference, although Newcastle are refusing to negotiate his departure. Salinas, meanwhile, provides a younger and more affordable option with significant room for development.

With Luke Shaw currently the senior natural left-back in the squad, adding more depth remains an important priority for United ahead of a demanding season.

So the question for United supporters is becoming unavoidable: should the club pursue Balde on loan, wait for Lewis Hall next summer, or take a chance on Salinas as a long-term project?
