Carlos Baleba’s expected arrival has given Manchester United fans renewed optimism, with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos already added to Michael Carrick’s midfield rebuild.
However, supporters must avoid judging new signings too quickly.
The 2-0 defeat to Hull City was disappointing, and both Tielemans and Santos struggled. But one poor performance does not suddenly make them bad players. They are still adapting to a new manager, teammates, system and the huge pressure of playing for Manchester United.
Baleba, who could cost around £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons, will also need time if he joins. At just 22, he brings energy, aggression, athleticism and ball-carrying ability, but he will not be perfect from day one.
Criticism of poor performances is fair. Abuse and writing players off after one game is not.
United are rebuilding, and chemistry will not develop overnight. Tielemans, Santos and Baleba need time to understand each other, adapt and grow into their roles.
The standards should remain high, but patience is equally important.
Support them when they perform, demand improvement when they struggle, and judge them over time—not after one bad afternoon.
