Ruben Amorim has reportedly made a stunning U-turn after watching one Manchester United player in action, admitting he underestimated his quality and now wants to reunite with him at AC Milan

The pre-season meeting between AC Milan and Manchester United at Tarczyński Arena in Wrocław, Poland, delivered plenty of drama, both during and after the match. It was also the first time former United boss Ruben Amorim faced his old club and Michael Carrick since leaving Old Trafford in January 2026.

Although Milan came from behind to secure a 4-2 victory, the biggest talking point reportedly came after the final whistle, with Amorim allegedly making a remarkable confession about Marcus Rashford following the forward’s return to the United squad.

Amorim is said to have admitted that he owes Rashford an apology after being impressed by his work rate and overall performance. The Portuguese manager reportedly claimed he had underestimated the England international during his time at United and now wants the opportunity to work with him again at AC Milan, even suggesting that Rashford deserves regular football.

The match itself produced six goals. Harry Maguire gave United an early lead with a header from Bruno Fernandes’ delivery, before Samuel Chukwueze equalised for Milan. Fernandes then missed a penalty before half-time. Patrick Dorgu restored United’s advantage shortly after the break, but Milan responded strongly. Alphadjo Cissè levelled the score before Gonçalo Ramos put the Italian side ahead, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek completing the comeback to secure a 4-2 win.

Amorim’s reported comments about Rashford have now added another layer to the transfer speculation surrounding the forward. With the summer transfer window approaching its final stages, Milan could potentially explore a move for the Manchester United attacker if their interest develops into a formal approach.
