Pep Guardiola has allegedly delivered a brutal verdict on Lewis Hall after United’s £70M pursuit
Manchester United’s pursuit of Lewis Hall has taken another dramatic turn after viral claims suggested that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has supposedly delivered a harsh verdict on the potential transfer.
The sensational story circulating online alleges that Guardiola believes United would be making a major tactical mistake by spending around £70 million on the Newcastle defender. The claim even suggests that Guardiola questioned whether Hall could cope with the immense pressure of playing for Manchester United.
However, there is a major problem with the story: there is no credible evidence that Guardiola actually made those remarks. Neither Manchester City nor Manchester United has confirmed the alleged comments, while no major reliable outlet has reported them as fact.
What is genuine is United’s interest in Hall. The 21-year-old England international has reportedly emerged as one of Michael Carrick’s preferred targets as the club looks to strengthen at left-back. Hall has several qualities that make him an attractive option for United. He is still only 21, has Premier League experience, is comfortable in possession and offers plenty going forward. His ability to contribute in both defensive and attacking areas could give Carrick another dimension when building attacks and controlling games from the left.
Newcastle, however, have shown little indication that they are ready to sell. Hall recently left the club’s pre-season camp in Spain after suffering a minor injury, which once again fuelled Manchester United speculation. Newcastle still consider him an important part of their plans under new manager Matthias Jaissle.
United now face a major decision. They could meet Newcastle’s huge valuation, continue negotiations in the hope that the Magpies eventually change their stance, or abandon the pursuit and turn their attention to another target.
A £70 million investment in a 21-year-old defender would also represent a significant statement from INEOS, particularly as the club attempts to establish a more disciplined recruitment strategy.
Lewis Hall remains a genuine Manchester United target, but Newcastle are resisting any attempt to sell him and there is currently no confirmed £70 million agreement.
As for the alleged Guardiola criticism, that should be treated as unverified speculation unless credible evidence emerges to support the claim.
