Manchester United have entered the race to sign Racing Santander left-back Jorge Salinas
CONFIRMED: Manchester United have reportedly joined the competition for Racing Santander left-back Jorge Salinas as they continue to explore options for the position.
The Spain U19 international is being considered as a cheaper alternative to Newcastle United target Lewis Hall, with United now among the clubs keeping a close eye on the highly-rated youngster.
Salinas, who came through Racing Santander’s academy, enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, featuring 34 times as the club secured promotion. His performances have helped establish him as one of Spain’s promising young full-backs.
Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Newcastle United and Porto are also believed to be interested, although Barcelona are reportedly reluctant to meet Santander’s valuation.
The 19-year-old, who is represented by Jorge Mendes, has a €16 million release clause after his previous €8 million clause expired on June 30. Racing Santander are now said to be waiting for a club to trigger the new clause.
Manchester United could now decide whether to make their interest concrete as the youngster’s list of suitors continues to grow.
