Man United step up pursuit of Sporting CP star Maxi Araújo as Chelsea and Tottenham circle

Manchester United are believed to have stepped up their pursuit of Sporting CP star Maxi Araújo after reportedly sending a club scout to assess his performances at the World Cup.
The United representative was in attendance in Miami as Uruguay played out a 2-2 draw against Cape Verde, with the versatile 26-year-old once again delivering a performance that reinforced his growing reputation.
The Red Devils have been monitoring Araújo for much of the season, viewing him as a strong option to strengthen the left side of the squad. His ability to play effectively as both a left-back and a left winger has made him an appealing target for the club’s recruitment team.
Sporting CP are understood to be keen on keeping the Uruguayan and are expected to open fresh contract discussions with him once the tournament comes to an end. The Portuguese champions are reportedly willing to improve his current terms in an effort to fend off interest from Europe’s top clubs.
While Araújo’s contract includes an €80 million release clause, reports suggest Sporting could be open to negotiating a deal worth around €60 million. Manchester United are not the only club monitoring the situation, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur also keeping tabs on the player.
For now, Araújo has yet to decide where his future lies, leaving several clubs on alert. Manchester United are expected to continue following his development closely before deciding whether to make a formal move during the summer transfer window.
