Breaking News: Pep Guardiola says he’s not happy over his top transfer target’s decision to join Man United instead of Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s feelings have reportedly been noted as transfer speculation grows over one of Europe’s elite midfielders potentially choosing Manchester United ahead of Manchester City this summer. Meanwhile, former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand has strongly encouraged the club to make a move for Aurélien Tchouaméni during the next transfer window.

United are expected to strengthen their defensive midfield options, especially after confirming that Casemiro will depart once his contract ends in June. Although the Brazilian has enjoyed an impressive spell of form in recent months, the club appears ready to begin planning for life without him.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand praised Tchouaméni’s quality and presence on the pitch. He pointed to the midfielder’s commanding display for France national football team against England national football team, describing him as powerful, composed, and experienced at the highest level. Ferdinand made it clear he would welcome the move and believes the midfielder could thrive at Old Trafford.

Even so, securing the Real Madrid star may prove complicated. Tchouaméni joined the Spanish giants from AS Monaco in 2022 for an initial £68 million, and he has since justified that investment with several top-level performances.

Recent reports have suggested Madrid could consider changes in midfield, with Rodri of Manchester City and Enzo Fernández of Chelsea both linked as possible targets. However, much could depend on who leads the club next season. If José Mourinho were to return, his preference for energetic, disciplined holding midfielders could make Tchouaméni an important part of the squad rather than a player available for sale.

Should the Frenchman become attainable, he would represent a major statement signing for United. Known for his calmness in possession, strong tackling, and intelligent distribution, he offers the balance and control every top side needs in midfield. His arrival could instantly strengthen the number six role and provide the platform for United’s more attacking players to flourish.

With UEFA Champions League qualification expected to boost finances, United may have the resources required to complete a high-value deal. If the opportunity arises, the club could view Tchouaméni as the ideal long-term successor to Casemiro.
