Manchester United are reportedly weighing up an unexpected approach for Teun Koopmeiners as they prepare for the upcoming summer transfer window, with Italian outlet Tuttosport suggesting the club is monitoring his situation closely.
The Old Trafford side are already mapping out changes in midfield, particularly with Casemiro set to depart once his current deal expires at the end of the season. Plans are in motion to bring in at least two new midfielders, and there is a possibility a third could be added if Manuel Ugarte leaves the club during the same period.
Within that context, Koopmeiners has emerged as a potential option. Reports indicate United are among several European sides prepared to test Juventus’ resolve, despite the midfielder enduring a difficult spell in Turin. The club is said to be open to taking a calculated risk on the 28-year-old, who could be available for a fee in the region of £26 million.
Juventus, also known as the Bianconeri, are believed to be keen on generating funds early in the window and are willing to part ways with the Dutch international at that valuation to ease financial pressures.
Koopmeiners’ appeal lies largely in his adaptability. Since arriving from Atalanta in 2024, he has been deployed in multiple roles. Although initially brought in as an attacking midfielder, he has spent much of this season operating deeper, featuring as a holding midfielder, a right-sided centre-back in a back three, and occasionally as a box-to-box number eight.
His technical qualities remain a standout feature of his game. The left-footed midfielder boasts an impressive passing accuracy of around 91 percent in Serie A this season and has demonstrated strong composure in possession, rarely losing the ball during matches.
Whether United push forward with a formal bid is still uncertain. Any move could depend on the player’s willingness to accept a reduced role within the squad at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Juventus are also keeping a close eye on his international prospects under Ronald Koeman. Should Koopmeiners fail to secure a place in the Netherlands squad for the upcoming World Cup, his market value could drop, potentially forcing the Italian club to accept a lower fee—something United may look to take advantage of in negotiations.
