Mark Goldbridge names Premier League star Man Utd ‘need to be all over’ to replace Alejandro Garnacho.
Manchester United fan and popular YouTuber Mark Goldbridge has already shared his thoughts on who the club should target if Alejandro Garnacho ends up leaving.
The 20-year-old winger has recently been linked with moves to both Napoli and Chelsea, a surprising development considering he was once seen as “untouchable” under Erik ten Hag and integral to the Dutch manager’s plans. However, since Ruben Amorim took over as United’s boss in November 2024, Garnacho’s status at the club appears to have shifted. Notably, Amorim left him out of the squad for United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad on December 15. Although Amorim later praised Garnacho for his reaction to this exclusion, the winger has mostly been relegated to the bench over the past three months.
Adding to the speculation, reports emerged that Garnacho’s agent was present at Stamford Bridge during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Wolves. Meanwhile, Italian outlet Il Mattino claimed that the winger has already agreed to join Napoli.
Amid this uncertainty, Mark Goldbridge, whose real name is Brent Di Cesare, has identified a potential replacement for Garnacho. On Tuesday, the 45-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to suggest Wolves forward Matheus Cunha as an ideal option. Goldbridge stated, “Man Utd need to be all over this Cunha deal.”
Cunha, 25, has been a rare bright spot for Wolves in an otherwise difficult season, scoring ten goals and providing four assists in 22 appearances. After Wolves’ recent 3-1 loss to Chelsea, manager Vitor Pereira expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s attitude, highlighting the need for leaders willing to fight for the team. Cunha, however, has continued to stand out with his energy and contributions.
The Brazilian forward is valued at €50 million (£42 million) and is contracted with Wolves until June 2027. Interest from Liverpool and Arsenal could complicate any potential move, as the competition for Cunha’s signature may trigger a bidding war.
If Garnacho does leave, his departure would represent a significant change for United, given his earlier importance to the squad. Goldbridge’s endorsement of Cunha as a replacement seems logical, given the forward’s creativity, versatility, and impressive work rate. However, with the high price tag and growing interest from rival clubs, United could face challenges in securing him. The question remains whether Cunha is the right fit for United or if the club should pursue a more established star to fill the potential void left by Garnacho.
