Ruben Amorim Overhauls Manchester United’s Coaching Team to Bring His Vision to Life
Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, has made sweeping changes to the club’s coaching framework, introducing new strategies and redefining roles to align with his vision. Since taking charge during the November international break, Amorim has set his sights on modernizing the club and creating a solid foundation for sustained success.
A key aspect of his transformation involved bringing in six trusted staff members from his former club, Sporting CP. This move marked a clear shift from the approach of his predecessor, Erik ten Hag. Notable departures under Amorim’s regime include Ruud van Nistelrooy and goalkeeper coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar. Among Ten Hag’s team, only first-team coach Darren Fletcher, set-piece specialist Andreas Georgson, and assistant goalkeeper coach Craig Mawson retained their positions.
One of the standout adjustments is the reassignment of Andreas Georgson. Previously responsible for set-piece planning, Georgson now focuses on liaising with the fourth official, particularly in managing VAR-related discussions. His previous duties have been handed over to Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido, two of Amorim’s trusted lieutenants from Sporting. The duo has already taken the lead in overseeing set-piece drills and implementing tactical strategies.
Despite introducing major changes, Amorim has maintained some continuity. Keeping figures like Fletcher onboard ensures a connection to the club’s traditions while navigating this new phase. Speaking on his vision, Amorim acknowledged the challenges of the transition, stating, “We’re building something that requires time. Immediate results may be elusive, but the groundwork we’re laying now is vital for the future.”
