“He is the best replacement for Jadon Sancho. Now Sancho is doing well at Chelsea, we need to do better and sign him now that he is not expensive”-Man Utd set to launch £48 million bid for one of the world’s best attackers after Roy Keane praised and rated him so high.
Manchester United are said to be preparing a £48.5 million offer for a new forward, spurred by glowing remarks from club legend Roy Keane.
Throughout the summer transfer window, United concentrated on bolstering their defense and midfield, spending more than £100 million on acquisitions such as Manuel Ugarte and Leny Yoro. Additional signings, including Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, pushed their total summer spending to over £150 million. Forward Joshua Zirkzee was also brought in from Bologna for an initial fee of £38.5 million.
Despite these moves, strengthening the winger position wasn’t initially a top priority for Erik ten Hag, especially with players like Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho able to cover wide areas. However, following Sancho’s loan move to Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window—with a buy obligation—United may now be short in the wide attacking department.
Antony has struggled to secure regular starts, with his only full game being the 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup. Meanwhile, Amad and Garnacho are vying for minutes, and although Rashford is starting to regain his form, United could find themselves lacking wing options by next summer.
As reported by Fichajes, United are weighing the option of activating the release clause for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams. The 22-year-old was a standout performer on the left flank during Euro 2024, playing a pivotal role in Spain’s triumphant campaign with a series of outstanding displays.
Williams, known for his electric pace, would offer a new dimension to United’s attacking arsenal. Barcelona are also reportedly interested in signing him, but financial limitations may complicate their pursuit.
With a release clause of £48.5 million, United are believed to be plotting a move for the talented winger next summer.
During Euro 2024, Roy Keane, while commenting on ITV, praised Williams, stating, “He’s pure quality. His pace is something you can’t teach. Put him one-on-one with a full-back, and it’s trouble.”
