CHELSEA FC owner Todd Boehly has today confirmed the purchase of Top 4 League club for a whooping sum of $2b all payments has been made and it will be officially announced tomorrow
The two Americans want to add more teams to their portfolio. In the summer, they bought a majority stake in the French team Strasbourg to get their multi-club idea off the ground.
Also, they’ve talked to Sporting about buying a piece of the famous Portuguese team. This would let them pick and choose which young players to use from the club’s school.
Record in Portugal says that Boehly and Eghbali’s plans to invest in Sporting are no longer on hold after they got past some problems in the talks.
It is thought that Boehly brought Sporting officials to Stamford Bridge in April to watch Chelsea play Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Boehly has said before that he thinks Portugal is “the perfect place” to put money into a new football club so that Chelsea’s younger players can get better.
A lot of talk has happened between Chelsea’s owners and Sporting over the last year.
It is said that Chelsea wanted to sign Andre from Fluminense in the summer and were ready to loan him straight to Sporting, who wanted to sign him but thought he was too expensive. However, the deal fell through.
At the same time, Patrick Morais de Carvalho, president of Belenenses, says that Chelsea buying a stake in the 19-time Primeira Liga winners would be disrespectful to Portuguese football.
He said, “I think it is a plan and an intention that hurts Portugal.” “It’s also rude to Sporting fans and Portuguese football fans in general in this case.”
