This initiative has already led to the hiring of a new chief executive and a new technical director. However, the appointment of a sporting director has yet to be finalized.
Dan Ashworth is the clear top candidate for this role. Manchester United have focused their efforts on Ashworth, who has been sidelined from his duties at Newcastle United due to his interest in joining Old Trafford. Despite this, an agreement between the clubs remains elusive, with Newcastle demanding a substantial compensation fee for Ashworth, a fee that Ineos has been unwilling to meet.
According to ESPN, Manchester United are now on the verge of reaching an agreement with Newcastle for Dan Ashworth’s services. The Athletic has also reported that terms have been agreed upon. United were keen to avoid prolonging the situation, which could have led to arbitration and increased costs.
The Athletic also reports that Ashworth would be able to start his role immediately, contrary to earlier expectations that he would begin after the transfer window closed in September.
