Already, Kobbie Mainoo has informed Manchester United the kind of midfielder they would like perfect partner.
Mainoo had a breakthrough season at United, rising to be one of manager Erik ten Hag’s first names on the squad sheet. Along with guaranteeing United’s place in next season’s Europa League, the 19-year-old scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Men Sport knows that United has placed all but four players on the summer transfer list. Among the four players with Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, and Alejandro Garnacho are Mainoo.
Mainoo is expected to be a major player for United going forward, hence if the most recent data are accurate, a new midfielder may be included to the team. According to Portuguese reports, the Reds rushed to attempt to recruit Benfica star Joao Neves.
Record has revealed that United turned down a £51 million deal for Neves this week. The Primeira Liga club reportedly values Neves closer to €100 million (£85 million) and has a €120 million (£102 million) release clause in his contract.
Mainoo had an interview with MUTV about his first-team United start to life back in April. If the youngster signs a new midfielder, one of the queries can provide a clue as to what they would wish from United’s transfer dealings this summer.
Mainoo was asked to identify his United fantasy midfield mate. The 19-year-old answered by outlining why Paul Scholes would be his pick as well as the reasons the line-up would not work in practice.
“I would suggest, Paul Scholes,” Mainoo advised MUTV back in April. “Although there might not be much [of]defending between the two of us. But, yes, Scholes. Scholes – very certainly.
