Mauricio Pochettino has ruled out two more Chelsea players for their Premier League meeting with Tottenham.
Chelsea has been missing numerous first-team players in recent weeks, including Enzo Fernandez, Reece James, Raheem Sterling, and Ben Chilwell, who have all suffered injuries.
During his pre-Spurs press conference, Pochettino stated that he had “no good news” on the injury front and announced that Thiago Silva and Axel Disasi will also miss the Stamford Bridge match on Thursday night.
When asked for an update on his team, Pochettino replied: “No positive news since we cannot recall any players from the last [injury] list.” And we need to add two more: Disasi and Thiago, who are unavailable for tomorrow.
When asked why Chelsea has suffered so many injuries this season, Pochettino replied: “I need to be honest; what I can say is we have a different method.”
Of sure, there are areas where we can improve. However, there are several instances, making it impossible to convey with a single word or term.
‘We have fantastic medical team with a lot of expertise in this industry. We need to be better next season and progress. But I believe the quality is present; this happens occasionally.
Chelsea will visit Pochettino’s previous team Tottenham, who are ninth in the Premier League but still have Champions League ambitions.
Ange Postecoglou will also be missing a couple crucial players against Chelsea, with Timo Werner and Ben Davies sidelined for the rest of the season, as confirmed on Wednesday.
Tottenham, who lost 3-2 to Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday, are seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa heading to Stamford Bridge, but have two games in hand on Unai Emery’s side.
Chelsea defeated Spurs 4-1 in the reverse game earlier this season, and Pochettino said it was’special’ to return to his previous club, whom he coached for five years from 2014 to 2019.
‘It felt great to play there [in the opposite fixture in November]. It was my first time since leaving the club, but this is a different period,’ the Argentine explained.
‘It will be emotional to see folks I’ve worked with for a long time. I can’t disguise my feelings for the club. I believe it will be emotional since you are against a previous squad with a successful past.
But, as I’ve already stated, we want to win throughout the course of 90 minutes, and Tottenham will come here to do the same. “It will be a good game.”
