Spain said that Ruben Amorim’s trip to London last week was to talk to Chelsea about replacing Mauricio Pochettino, not West Ham. But Chelsea has denied these reports.
The Sporting boss had to say sorry over the weekend after being seen in London just days before his team was supposed to play Porto in the league. It was thought that he was there to talk to West Ham.
For a long time, Amorim was talked about as a possible replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. However, when the Reds signed Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, he turned his attention to other opportunities, and it was said that he had talked to West Ham’s management about taking over from David Moyes.
But on Tuesday morning, Portuguese writer Pedro Sepulveda made the shocking claim that Chelsea had planned the trip and that Amorim had met with members of the club’s board to talk about taking over for the under-fire Pochettino.
On the other hand, Chelsea quickly denied the rumor. Matt Law of The Telegraph said that the west Londoners are “absolutely sure” they did not pay for Amorim’s flight to London.
