Manchester United is taking the lead in the race to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, according to reports from Corriere dello Sport, edging out competition from Newcastle United.

As Manchester United prepares for the upcoming summer transfer window, they have identified Bremer as their top priority to strengthen their defense, according to sources in Italy.

Despite signing a new long-term contract with Juventus in December, the agreement included a ‘soft release clause’ of €61 million, making his potential departure possible.

Corriere dello Sport suggests that Bremer is likely to move to the Premier League, with Manchester United having the advantage in negotiations over Newcastle.

Juventus stands to profit €55 million from Bremer’s potential transfer, with his former club Torino entitled to 10 percent of the fee as per the terms of his departure.

The Brazilian defender has impressed in Serie A, catching the eye of Manchester United as they move closer to securing his services.

With the presence of the release clause, Manchester United could expedite the process by avoiding lengthy negotiations with Juventus, provided personal terms are agreed upon.

Currently earning €178,000 per week with Juventus, Bremer is expected to seek a higher wage, possibly around €250,000 weekly, if he joins Old Trafford.

Although there may be concerns about Bremer’s age, at 27, manager Erik ten Hag could view him as an experienced replacement for Raphael Varane, whose contract expires in June and has not been renewed.

Bremer’s statistics in Serie A highlight his defensive capabilities, with an impressive passing accuracy of 87 percent this season. He has been influential in duels, winning an average of 5.4 per game, along with 5.4 recoveries and 3.9 clearances.

Additionally, he has showcased his tackling skills with an average of 1.8 tackles per game, contributing to 12 clean sheets. With Bremer reportedly eager for a move to the Premier League, Manchester United appears set to secure his services.
