Presenter reveals he’s worried about the 28-year-old City star’s current situation.
Radio host Sam Matterface feels Manchester City’s Jack Grealish’might be in danger’ of missing out on England’s Euro 2024 selection later this year.
Grealish’s season for City has been hit and miss.
Grealish, who was a crucial player in the Treble-winning 2022/23 campaign, has struggled for consistency this season.
He’s made 24 appearances in all competitions, totaling 1525 minutes.
He’s had some injury issues and has been unwell, and with Jeremy Doku and Oscar Bobb showing great promise, the £100 million man isn’t in his finest form right now.
According to commentator Sam Matterface, Grealish’s spot in the England squad may be in peril if things do not change.
Matterface stated his reservations about Grealish when discussing Phil Foden on talkSPORT’s Premier League All Access programme.
The 28-year-old has made only one 13-minute appearance in City’s previous three Premier League games, and he did not get off the bench in the FA Cup victory against Tottenham.
He did play 57 minutes against Huddersfield Town in City’s first game of 2024.
Matterface stated, “I’m a little concerned about Jack Grealish. He’s been out of the picture for a little while. He may be one of the odd men out in the Euros unless he can return to the team.
“But you know what Pep is like, he puts you on the bench for a little spell and then brings you back again and you have the headlines following you once again.”
Grealish losing out would be a massive shock.
It would be quite surprising if Grealish did not make England’s Euro 2024 squad this summer.
He may not be playing much for City right now, but he is a player Gareth Southgate should be taking.
Grealish focuses on ball retention and control, and he works hard defensively. These characteristics make him somewhat unique, and his ability to draw fouls is a hugely underappreciated aspect of his game, as set-pieces can result in goals. He is also an excellent team player, as Paul Merson recently stated.
Going forward, he may not play as much for City as he did last season, with Doku and Bobb competing for minutes, but it would be a huge surprise if he didn’t secure a place on that plane.
