Chelsea Manager Mauricio Pochettino has finally broken silence on Conor Gallagher transfer to Tottenham this January

The 23-year-old midfielder has been one of Chelsea’s important players this season, almost always present in the manager’s starting XI, missing only one game due to suspension and usually captaining the side in Reece James’ absence.

According to reports, he might be sold to help bankroll Chelsea’s January transfer window bid for a striker, despite Pochettino’s insistence that the club does not need to sell before they can buy this month.

Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing the England international, and while he is considered to prefer staying in west London, talk about his future continues.

But the Chelsea manager is unconcerned about how Gallagher is managing the uncertainty surrounding his future.

‘I think he’s doing a tremendous job; he’s working hard, and he’s doing a lot for the club, us, and his teammates.

‘We’re pleased with his performances. He has an edge because he is familiar with the club. He is familiar with the Premier League’s requirements. We are overjoyed with him.’

The futures of a few Chelsea players have been called into question this month, with Ian Maatsen rumoured to be close to joining Borussia Dortmund on loan.

Meanwhile, Andrey Santos has returned from a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, with his future uncertain.

‘If you want to ask me if I was talking with Conor about this problem, yeah,’ Pochettino continued.

‘Like all the players, when rumours circulate, it’s always a good idea to have a nice talk with the player, such as Ian Maatsen, or various players, such as this, Andrey Santos.

‘I think it’s always vital for us, as coaches, to have very clear, straight, and honest conversations with the players. These kinds of interactions are beneficial.

‘We were talking about a variety of topics, and if we have something to say, we will.’
