Top 4 English manager has been finally sacked today after sobering defeat in the premier League today
Salford City sack manager Neil Wood amid relegation fears | CaughtOffside.
After a 5-1 loss to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday, Salford City terminated manager Neil Wood.
The 40-year-old manager led Salford to the League Two Play-Offs last season, but the squad is on the verge of relegation this season.
The team, which is owned by Manchester United’s Class of 92, has suffered 16 defeats this season, with their most recent setback against Tranmere Rovers on Boxing Day convincing the owners to cut company with the management.
According to an official club statement:
“Neil Wood, Head Coach of Salford City Football Club, has resigned.”
“The Club would like to thank Neil for his hard work over the last 18 months, including leading the Club to our highest-ever Sky Bet League Two finish last season, and we wish him well in his future role within football.”
“The process of appointing a new Manager will commence immediately, with Assistant Coach Simon Wiles preparing the team for Friday’s game against Grimsby Town.”
Wood was the manager of Manchester United’s U23 team before joining Salford.
During his playing career, he also represented Manchester United’s academy but did not make the first team.
He joined Salford in May 2022 and oversaw 88 competitive matches.
On Friday, Salford will face Grimbsy Town, with assistant manager Simon Wiles taking over as manager.
Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, and Paul Scholes are all part of the club’s ownership structure.
