Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has announced that both Romeo Lavia and Mykhailo Mudryk will be assessed after picking minor knocks in the Blues’ win against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night. Noni Madueke’s late penalty gave the hosts a crucial three points at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea took the lead within the first 15 minutes, thanks to some excellent effort from Malo Gusto on the left side. However, Michael Olise, who Chelsea sought to sign in the summer transfer window, levelled the game just before halftime.

Chelsea then dominated the second half and continued to press the Palace goal. Although it was becoming annoying for the home fans until Madueke came on with roughly 20 minutes to go and transformed the game.

After being fouled by Eberechi Eze, Madueke got a penalty and confidently stepped up from 12 yards. To earn Chelsea maximum points in west London, the 21-year-old sent Dean Henderson the wrong way.

But it wasn’t all good news for the Blues. Romeo Lavia, who came on late in the second half to make his long-awaited debut for the club after signing from Southampton in the summer, took a knock and will now be assessed.

Mudryk also took a small knock. The pair will be evaluated by Chelsea’s medical staff before their trip to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.

“We have to evaluate Mudryk and then Romeo Lavia,” Pochettino remarked. When asked what was wrong with Lavia, Chelsea’s head coach answered, “He feels something, some issue.” We must check and hope that it is not [bad].

“I’m a little concerned. I’m not sure, since if you watched the game [against Crystal Palace], you wouldn’t notice I was adjusting Lavia’s position at the end because he was struggling to run. We will see what happens.

“Hopefully, it’s not a big deal and he’ll be able to play with us again.” Important player who will recover; it will be a tragedy if he cannot play in the next few games.”

Pochettino will hope to be able to call on both when Chelsea visits Kenilworth Road in an attempt to end their catastrophic recent away form. Chelsea have not won on the road since overcoming nine-man Tottenham in early November.
