Manchester City is ready to launch a £22 million bid for an Argentine ‘star’ who is likely to leave in 202.

Manchester City are apparently preparing to make a £22 million bid for Claudio Echeverri, a promising Argentine midfielder.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that City were one of the key contenders to sign Echeverri, and that the club was hopeful of securing his services.

Echeverri presently plays for River Plate, where Julian Alvarez previously played.

That specific agreement was obviously highly beneficial for City, with Alvarez having been outstanding since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium.

City appears to be seeking to emulate that feat with the signing of Echeverri…

MORE STORIES ABOUT MAN CITY

According to journalist Cesar Merlo, City intends to put River Plate’s determination over Echeverri to the test.

The club is contemplating a bid of £22 million for the attacking midfielder, with the goal of loaning Echeverri to River for six to twelve months.

Of course, City did the same thing with Alvarez.

The club agreed to terms with the attacker but left him at River Plate before he joined City’s first-team squad in the summer of 2022.

Finally, the club made a wise decision because Alvarez was allowed to continue playing frequently and growing ahead of his move to Manchester.

Interestingly, Echeverri, who has been dubbed a “talent” by Barcelona manager Xavi, recently made his first-team debut for River against Rosario Central, and after the game, the 17-year-old revealed (AS): “I’m not going to sign a new deal, but I’ll stay for 6 months or a year.”

Echeverri’s current contract with River expires in December 2024, thus City might get a decent deal on him.

A new Julian Alvarez?

With this, it’s impossible not to recall City’s transaction for Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez definitely played for River and stayed with the club to further his career after City signed him.

He has proven to be an excellent signing, and hopefully Echeverri can follow in his footsteps.

Last week, journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Echeverri was also being pursued by Chelsea, with Barcelona apparently interested.

So there may be competition for the youngster, but City will undoubtedly fancy their chances. The Alvarez voyage will undoubtedly be used to pitch themselves to Echeverri.
