CHELSEA STAR Moises Caicedo fires back at Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp and has revealed the Truth behind him not joining Liverpool during the Summer and Joining Chelsea Instead
The 22-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge after months of talks between the Blues and his former club Brighton, which resulted in a £115 million transfer. However, it wasn’t before a tense finale to the window saw Liverpool attempt to hijack the deal with their own £100 million bid.
The Ecuadorian international elected to transfer to West London, where he seemed to be struggling in his first season under Mauricio Pochettino. Caicedo has so far failed to make the significant impact that was predicted with the high price tag linked to him, after giving away a penalty in his first game for the club in a 3-1 loss to West Ham.
After selling the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Fabinho – three stars who had formed the backbone of Klopp’s Liverpool squad in recent years – during the summer transfer window, Klopp was forced to settle for second place on two separate occasions when dealing with Chelsea after failing to sign 19-year-old Romeo Lavia a week after missing out on Caicedo.
Since then, the Reds manager has taken aim at the two following their problems with Chelsea this season. “The summer we had, a few strange things happened in the transfer market, but here, between us, I can say’my God, were we lucky!'” he said at a recent news conference.
“To be honest, we didn’t know that at the time; it didn’t feel like it at the time.” I’m relieved that it didn’t turn out that way. I had a great vibe before we started pre-season with who we already had.
“Maca [Alexis Mac Allister] and Dzsoba [Dominik Szoboszlai] are already in, and we see it as an opportunity for Ryan [Gravenberch], and we’ve obviously realised that other central defensive midfielders don’t want to join Liverpool!” “We’ll see what happens.”
Caicedo revealed to Sky Sports the actual reason he didn’t join Liverpool, claiming it was simply because they didn’t provide as much support for the player as Chelsea did.
“I chose Chelsea because I was talking with them first, and then it was impossible not to choose them,” he explained. They were there for me, supporting me because I had a difficult time leaving Brighton in the summer.
“They were there with me. Liverpool called me at the final minute, but it was too late. It was too late, you understand? I wanted to play for Chelsea, and the people who worked here were there for me every step of the way, so it was difficult to say no to Chelsea.
“This is Chelsea, you know.” You have to win every game at Chelsea, and if you don’t, you’ll feel the strain. I’ve only been here four months, so everything is fresh to me, and I believe it’s past time. It will take time because I am aware of my abilities, I am aware of my teammates, and it will be our time.”
