The Blues are still without Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku as they get ready to play Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League this week.
On Tuesday morning, neither player practiced at the City Football Academy because the team was flying to Belgrade for their last Champions League Group G game. City already had a lock on the top spot in the group, so they didn’t need to play. Ederson was also not there because he was sick.
Pep Guardiola said on Sunday that Haaland would be checked on every week because of a “stress on the bone” in his foot. He also said that Haaland probably wouldn’t be ready to play against Crystal Palace on Saturday and probably wouldn’t be ready for the Club World Cup next week either. Doku hurt a muscle, and Guardiola didn’t want to rush him back and make it worse.
On Tuesday, 23 players practiced, including some academy players, because Guardiola might want to change up his team for a game where neither team has to worry about the outcome.
City’s young players also won their group in the UEFA Youth League. The club has until Tuesday at midnight to confirm any under-21 players on their Champions League “B List” who can play against Red Star. Kane Taylor, Max Alleyne, Mahamadou Susoho, and Micah Hamilton all trained.
Guardiola might choose to use Matheus Nunes, Kalvin Phillips, Oscar Bobb, and Sergio Gomez, as well as Rico Lewis, Manu Akanji, and John Stones, who did not start against Luton on Sunday.
Kevin De Bruyne is also still out, along with Doku and Haaland. He was included in the Club World Cup team, but he is not expected to be fit enough to play. Guardiola said last week that he was back running on the practice pitch, but he hasn’t trained with the team yet.
