Pat Nevin thinks that Mauricio Pochettino is getting a bad name during his first year at Chelsea because of what he has done in the past. The Blues are still stuck in the middle of the table and haven’t been higher than ninth in the league at the end of any matchweek this season. Their bad performance against Manchester United made the problem even worse.

When Pochettino’s team went to Old Trafford, they were trying to build on their strong performance against Brighton just a few days before. They wanted to get their first win at the stadium in ten years. A weak performance, on the other hand, made many people question the head coach again.

After the terrible 4-1 loss to Newcastle not even two weeks ago, fans put pressure on Pochettino and his team, mostly online. On Wednesday night, the away fans booed them. Spurs are now eight points ahead of Chelsea in fifth place, but they have a game in hand before their Thursday game against West Ham.

Many people thought Pochettino would quickly turn things around after finishing 12th last season with a mix of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Frank Lampard in charge. This was because Pochettino has a history of stabilising Premier League teams and doing great work with young players. But 15 games in, there is just as much doubt as there was when he first started the job, if not more.
