Pep Guardiola dismissed concerns over his players’ reactions at the end of Manchester City’s draw with Tottenham.
The group was enraged in the last minutes of their game when the referee blew his whistle abruptly after Erling Haaland had chipped the ball over the top for Jack Grealish, who was chasing a late winner. Haaland led the protests against the decision and continued off the pitch, tweeting ‘Wtf’ in response.
The FA has charged City with failing to control their players during the event, and the club faces a large fine – the club has until December 7 to reply – yet Haaland has not received any individual penalty. Guardiola refused to blame the referee after the game and insisted that his squad look in the mirror, which was echoed by several players in post-game interviews.
That reply has been enough for Guardiola to be satisfied with his players, despite external criticism, particularly of Haaland’s attitude. While the manager is unsure how the club would respond to the accusation, he is confident in what he has seen.
“This season, we behaved admirably. “What I want to see from my team and my club is how we behaved in our not-so-good results or decisions, even after the game, the comments from my players accepting we can do better,” he said.
“After that, we’ll accept all the decisions from the Premier League or whatever.”
