FA finally agrees with Chelsea, Punish Manchester City for Cheating Chelsea with VAR after controversial Anthony Taylor goal, Chelsea Owner Todd Boehly liked the Idea and will make it happen TODAY
Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett has advocated for a change to the regulations because he believes that VAR “stitched up” Anthony Taylor by awarding Manchester City a penalty in their 4–4 draw with Chelsea. A thrilling ninety minutes between Chelsea and City took place at Stamford Bridge, and it might become an instant Premier League classic.
Both teams went on the attack from the first whistle in this action-packed game, but there was also drama throughout. The most controversial incident occurred in the first half when Taylor’s decision to punish Marc Cucurella for fouling Erling Haaland in the area was upheld by VAR, leading to a penalty kick for City.
Although VAR seemed to concentrate on Cucurella’s actions as the ball was whipped into the box, replays seemed to indicate that both players were tugging at each other’s shirts. After Taylor signalled the spot, VAR upheld the on-field ruling, and Haaland scored the spot kick to give City the lead.
According to Hackett, the fact that the VAR official didn’t think the mistake was “clear and obvious” contributed to the decision not being overturned. However, the 79-year-old believes that provision should be repealed since it prevents some decisions from being corrected.
“One of the best referees in the nation, Taylor, was decisive in pointing to the spot without hesitation, but I think he needed another look,” he said in a Telegraph article. This is the point at which I find the VAR problematic.
“What Taylor observed from his vantage point is unknown, although it’s likely that he missed Haaland’s contact, but he did see Cucurella foul. Taylor should have been informed by the VAR that he required a second look at what transpired.
