“I don’t even understand how the Balon d’Or ranking is even done because how will Victor Osimhen finish ahead of me and Lewandoski – Man City star boy Julian Alverez revealed his frustrations after finishing below striker Victor Osimhen in the Balon d’Or award
Julian Alvarez has thrown his support behind Lionel Messi for the Ballon d’Or, favoring his compatriot over his Manchester City colleague, Erling Haaland. Alvarez, echoing Pep Guardiola’s sentiment, proposed a split in the award to recognize both players but emphasized Messi’s strong claim due to his World Cup triumph.
At the Ballon d’Or event, Alvarez praised Messi’s exceptional season and highlighted his remarkable World Cup performance. He recommended a division of the award, with one dedicated to Messi and the other for the remaining top players, underscoring Messi’s impressive year.
“I concur with Pep’s suggestion: they should have one for Messi and another for the rest. Leo had an extraordinary season, winning a World Cup while being the finest player. He deserves to win it,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez himself played an essential role for Argentina in the World Cup, contributing four goals in seven matches.
Pep Guardiola also championed the idea of multiple Ballon d’Or categories, endorsing both Messi and Haaland as deserving winners. He acknowledged the fantastic achievements of Messi and the strong case for Haaland to secure the award. However, the scale tipped in Messi’s favor due to his World Cup victory.
As per reports, Lionel Messi is poised to secure his eighth Ballon d’Or at the Paris ceremony, further solidifying his legendary status in the football world.
