Premier League manager has been Sacked this evening after winning just two games this season
QPR manager Gareth Ainsworth has been fired following his team’s home defeat to Leicester City. The club revealed after the 2-1 loss that the 50-year-old had departed his tole with immediate effect. “Making a call such as this is never easy, and it is even more difficult when you have such respect on both a personal and professional level for the individuals concerned – which we all do for Gareth and Richard (Dobson),” said QPR CEO Lee Hoos in a statement.
“Many supporters have told me in recent months that they have never wished for someone to succeed more than Gareth, which demonstrates how much everyone associated with QPR admires him.” Unfortunately, this season’s results have not gone as planned, and we believe a change is required.”
The Rs have gone 12 league and cup games without a win since beating Cardiff 2-1 on August 12. And Ainsworth left them in 23rd place in the Championship, six points from safety.
After seven seasons at Loftus Road between 2003 and 2010, he was regarded as a player at the club. As a result, his return as manager in February was widely praised, having been praised for his efforts as manager of Wycombe Wanderers for 11 years.
However, his arrival was followed by a terrible run of form, with the team ending 20th and just two places above the relegation zone. Ainsworth then stated publicly that he wanted to make “big changes” during the summer, but a 4-0 home loss to Watford on the opening day put him under pressure.
Despite the club’s vulnerable condition, Hoos commended Gareth’s work ethic: “Gareth has been a pleasure to work with from the moment he arrived and I am truly sorry this has not worked out as we all had hoped,” he added.
“On behalf of the board, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Gareth for his dedication, desire, passion, and professionalism.” We all hold the highest regard for him, and he is always welcome here. We recognise the necessity of promptly naming a new head coach, and an announcement will be made in the coming days.”
The decision’s timing is intriguing. Next Saturday’s game against Rotherham United, who are just a point ahead of QPR in 22nd place, will be crucial for the new manager.
