Premier League giants have been deducted points before the season has even started for breaching FFP rules!
The Toffees reported losses of £371.8 million over a three-year period, whereas the competition’s cap is £105 million. This led to the Premier League charging the team in March for violating FFP standards.
After Everton refuted the claims, the Premier League referred the club to an independent commission regarding the purported violation of its sustainability and profitability policies.
The Telegraph claims that should the independent commission find Everton guilty, the Premier League will ask for the team to lose points.
With seven points from nine games this season, Everton is now 16th in the Premier League.
“The club strongly contests the allegation of non-compliance and together with its independent team of experts is entirely confident that it remains compliant with all financial rules and regulations,” the Everton statement said in response to the Premier League’s initial charges against the squad.
“Everton is ready to give the commission a forceful defense of its stance.”
Over a number of years, the club has given the Premier League information in an open and transparent manner. It has also made a conscious decision to always behave in good faith.
Everton has been charged by the Premier League under Rule W.82.1, which is the same rule that Manchester City is also accused of breaking.
